Overthinking. — rêveuse

Overthinking is the biggest cause of your unhappiness. Keep yourself occupied. Once you start overthink, you can’t stop. It keep your mind off things that don’t help you. Overthinking lead to false hope and bad mood. It makes you feel hopeless and worthless. Worry is total waste of time. It doesn’t change anything. All it […]

Are we really helping society by distributing free food?

I always wonder why we have not yet eradicated starvation when so many organisations are distributing free food and other edibles? Truth is, by distributing free food we cannot achieve anything. By distributing free food, you are making people lazy and not interested in working anymore.

Around the world and especially in India, free food is distributed from decades. Still, population of people eating free food is increasing annually. If free food is solution of hunger, population which depends on free food must decrease over time but as mentioned above, population is increasing. Even after spending billions of Dollars daily, we are at the same situation. Every day we need even more food to serve.Below are some organisations working in this field:

  • Hare Krishna Food for Life is the world’s largest vegetarian non-profit food relief organization. It provide up to 2,000,000 free meals daily.
  • The Feeding America network distributed more than 3.6 billion meals to people in need in last one year.
  • At the Sikh Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, nearly 100,000 people eat on an average day.

My intention of writing this post is not to discredit the noble work done by above organisation but to highlight the root cause.

A person needs free food when he/she does not have a source of income. Instead of distributing free food, if we utilise this money in providing education, skill development and generating employment then there will not be any need for free food.

Eid-Ul-Fitr :

Based on the sighting of the moon, tomorrow (15th June 2018) might be the Eid-ul-Fitr- a Muslims festival.

I would like to wish you all a Happy Eid-Ul-Fitr!

Below is some basic information about Eid.

The Festival celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. It is celebrated on the first of Shawwal (10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar). Eid is a Thanksgiving Day for the Muslims. On this day Muslims show their real joy for the health, strength and the opportunities of life, which Allah has given to them to fulfill their obligation of fasting and other good deeds during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Meaning of Word Eid-ul-Fitr : The word Eid in Arabic means: ‘a gathering of a group at any day.’ It is also related to the meaning: ‘to return’ which indicates that this day returns again every year, while Fitr means “to break the fast”.

History of Beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr :

The hadith pertaining to Eid is narrated by Hazrat Anas (RA) in the following manner:

“Holy Prophet came to Madinah, the people had two days in which they used to entertain and amuse themselves. He asked: “What are these two days?” They said: “We used to amuse ourselves and take pleasure in these two days during the Days of Ignorance (jahiliyyah). The Messenger of Allah said, “Allah has substituted for you something better than these two; the Eid of Adha  (sacrifice) and the Eid of Fitr .”  [Sunan Abi Dawood]

While celebrating, do not forget the poor and needy people. Go to orphanages and arrange some nice food for them. At least take care of poos in your neighbourhood.

Never give up!

We all face difficulties in our life at some point of time; however, different people handle such situation differently. How you tackle your problems determine what kind of person you are! Different approach can work for different people, but one who never gives up always succeeds.

Life is the best thing we have; however, that does not mean life is simple or fair. Very few things are simple in life. Life is unpredictable and it is not necessary that good deeds results in good return. Most often, you are not rewarded for your good deeds, on the contrary sometimes you face worst results after helping someone. For example: you saw someone standing on lonely road in hot summer afternoon for lift, you stopped your car and let him in. As he sits inside your car he took out his gun and asked you to step out of car and handover all your  expensive things to him. Not only he robbed everything from you but also, left you alone on a highway in hot afternoon.

Let me give you a real life example of Dr. Kafeel Khan from UP, India. Dr. Kafeel, a paediatrician at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College saved life of several babies who would have died due to the scarcity of oxygen cylinders in hospital. He called everyone and arranged as many oxygen cylinders as he could for babies. Still 30 children died due to insufficient supply of oxygen. He was booked for the oxygen supply tragedy just because he was a Muslim and sent to Jail. He has been released on bail by the high court only recently, after the court found no evidence to prove medical negligence on part of Dr Kafeel Khan in dispelling his duties to save the children. Story does not end here. When he came out of Jail, his younger brother was shot and hospitalize. A saviour became victim of politics.

Do not do good in expectation of good return. If you are God fearing person, do good for your lord, if you are non religious, do good for your own happiness. However, do not expect from others, rewards of your goodness. You will always be disappointed. In short term, life is not fair. But in long term it might be preparing you for bigger challenges. So, Never give up. Think what life is asking from you? How you can change situation upside down. Where there is a will there is a way.

When Winston Churchill, who served as the prime minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1955, was asked to give speech in a university, he gave a speech containing most powerful message for everyone. He said Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”

Power of Meditation :

While you are  reading this text, simultaneously you are breathing, your heart pumping blood to all parts, your kidney is filtering your blood, your skin is sensing temperature and sending signal for warm or cold environment, your ears are hearing sounds, your eyes are not only reading but also overlooking the background, your hands holding the  mouse  by applying a constant pressure on it, many more things are going on inside your body  unnoticed without consciously thinking about it. All this is controlled by your senior silent friend known as subconscious. Your subconscious is driving you silently. Though it is not your enemy but an uneducated powerful friend. Your subconscious  run your whole body without disturbing you consciously. It comprises of 90% of your brain and thus it is much powerful than your conscious brain-the thinking you.

All your instant reaction are directed from sub-conscious as there is no enough time for conscious to think and take decision. But sometimes we do have time yet we allow our subconscious to react on situation in anger. All this behavior can be change by having control over your subconscious.

Our subconscious does not understand words as our conscious do. Thus making a bright and happy picture trigger your subconscious to work towards that goal. Your subconscious understand feeling and emotion’s and pictures made in your mind. Use them to alter your behavior.

Meditation is art of awakening subconscious and to create a link with it. For meditation one needs calm place with dim or no light and loose outfit. Sit on the ground preferably or on any hard surface in comfortable posture. Cross leg is better. Give a name to your sub-conscious before starting the meditation.  Slowly take deep breath. Close your eyes and try to relax while thinking that you are part of universe and you and universe are one entity.

After 5 mins or when you start feeling relaxed, start talking to your subconscious. Think about what you want to change in your behavior or inside your body. For example: anger/ quitting smoking/ losing weight/ recovery from disease.

Repeat: I want to control my anger.

I don’t want to get angry on small issues.

If I will not be angry, it will make my life better. My family will be happy. My friends will be happy

Everyone will appreciate me. I will be a happier person.

So I don’t want to be angry. Max (name your subconscious) help me to control my anger.

It will make me happy.

Try to think of happy life which bring smile on your face. Make a picture in your mind of your family and friends being happy and appreciating you. Meditate for min. 10 min. daily in the morning. Within one week to ten days we will find difference in your behavior.

Make meditation a rule of life and follow daily. It enhances your capability and control. Meditation is good exercise to relax your mind and change your behaviour.

Be Positive:

Most of the peoples around you are pessimist. They fail to see colourful, bright and joyful side of life. Not only such people waste their lives but also they keep discouraging others on trivial issues. Do not let yourself down; do not let your confidence broken by such small thinkers.

Make sure what you are doing is right and do it. No one in the world has done something worthwhile for which he or she is not criticised initially. However, those who remain determine and confident even after discouragement and criticism, always attain their goals.

Be positive and think big. We create things in two steps, first mentally and then physically. Therefore, to achieving big, thinking big is very important. Negative thoughts drain your energy and destroy your confidence. Be an optimist.

Indians must Stop Criticising and start taking responsibility

Let me start with some Quotes first:

“Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain – and most fools do.”

“It is a thing of no great difficulty to raise objections against another man’s oration – nay, it is very easy; but to produce a better in its place is a work extremely troublesome.”

“When men speak ill of thee, live so as nobody may believe them.”

Yes, it is easier to be critical than correct. It is even easier to criticize anyone or anything. Though, it is not always worthwhile to criticize and complain, still we do it most of time. Finding mistakes and flaws in others work is easiest and favourite pass time for most of us. Even if you asked a layman about complicated problem, he will tell you several solutions. However, there are very few things so easy in real world. It is very easy to say anything, but when you are decision maker, very few choices you have!

Take the example of recent Indian Government under leadership of Mr. Modi. During election campaign, Mr. Modi promise everything for every citizen of India. One crore jobs every year, 15 lakh rs. In every Indian account, corruption eradication, equality and reduction in prices of commodity. Four years are over to this government and employment rate is at lowest, no black money came from swiss bank, corruption is still prevalent, Dollar price is increasing causing Rs to fall. Petrol prices are at highest even though crude price were lowest for last two years in international market.

Though, I do not think that BJP government and Mr. Modi has done much in last 4 years, nevertheless, it will be dishonest to say that he have not achieve anything at all. It will be wrong to criticize every policy and every decision of present government.

Implementing GST across the nation is one of the most important achievements of present government. Swachh Bharat Shauchalaya Yojana (Free toilet scheme) was another good initiative. There are few ministers who are doing exceptionally well like  Sushma Swaraj (Minister of External Affairs of India) and Mr. Nitin Gadkari (Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways) Before expecting more from government we must look at ourselves. We have no right to complain about any Government. We are the one who elected the government.

We, the citizens of India are corrupt and do not care about our nation. We only talk about patriotism. However, when time comes to show our patriotism, we start calculation profit and loss. Even though, we knew that promises made during elections are fake (Jumla) and will never be fulfil, still majority voted for a communal government for obvious reason. I am sure they will do the same again. It is high time to realise that communal powers (which ever religion they might belong to) has created a big divide between us. Realization of problem is the first step in resolving it.

Every citizen of country has a lot of responsibility. Democracy does not function well without active involvement of citizens. Casting our vote is one small part of our various responsibilities. In dictatorship, you have no right to raise your voice. But in democracy, you have to raise your voice for every wrong policy and every wrong deed of government. Raise your voice, whether it is through peaceful protest, through online campaign or through writing letters. Use every democratic and peaceful means to protest for your rights. Do not wait for election. Your responsibility does not end after voting, it just start from there. Do not live like a slave-blind and deaf.

Every Indian, whether earning or not, is paying tax-directly or indirectly to government. Government is answerable to public for every penny they spent. It is illogical to think that next time we will vote for another party and our problems will be solved. Politicians knew that we are divided in religions and castes. As long as we will not give a clear message to them that we need development, we need employment and we need quality of life they will keep winning elections based on caste and religious politics. Political parties no longer saw us as human being. We are mare vote bank for them. Development of India depends on Indians not on political parties. We have to send a clear message to every political party that we will not allow any criminal candidate in election. We want party manifesto based on development and how they will achieve it. How many industries, hospitals, and universities they will open in our area if they will be elected. When they come for asking vote for them, ask them where they were for last five years? What they did and what they will do in next five years.

Work hard, party harder

Life is beautiful. To make it more beautiful you need to organise your professional life properly. Always keep your personal and professional life separate. Unfortunately, in Indian subcontinent, this is not the case. Employees will bring tension and work to home. Instead of focussing on work during office hours and pleasure during holidays, most of the employees mix work and pleasure and achieve no good result.

Most of us spent around half hour in travelling from home to office and same time in returning from office to home. This time can be utilising for transition from home mode to office mode provided you are not driving. If you are driving, then probably best thing is to focus on the road. However, if you are not driving, start thinking and planning for your work. While returning, do the same thing about the home. In office, avoid taking personal call or keep them short. Your full focus should be on work. No unnecessary chatting, no videos, no social media, just work. Similarly, when you are at home do not take calls from office, until it is damn important. When you go on holidays, switch off your company mobile. Focus of enjoying. Have party. Do not even think about any work. Refresh yourself. Spend quality time with your family and friends. Do what you like the most.

In this way, not only you will be able to perform well in your work but also will be able to live a more fulfilling life. Always remember your priorities. Initially, we start earning for our family, for living a better life but somewhere in the middle we forget our priorities and reason why we wanted to have money. Working hard is good; however, mixing work with personal life is not a good idea. Do not sacrifice happiness of your family and your health for your promotion.

There is no point in achieving success, if there is no one to celebrate it.

Are we really Intelligent ?

Human beings are very interesting. Most of them are self-obsessed. They think they are very intelligent. However, if you ask them compare to what? They might not have any answer for some time. Then after thinking they will reply compared to all other life form on earth! Oh Wow, as if world is full of intelligent species. Truth is not so pleasant. Truth is we are emotional fools. Have you ever cried while watching movies? Have you ever started jumping and yelling when your team wins in a match and you are watching it on TV? How about breaking TV and throwing things when your team lost a match? When it comes to personal safety we do some really cool stuff. As soon as we notice there are no policemen to watch us around, we remove safety belt of our car seat. We actually need laws to make people wear helmet while driving bikes! In construction sites, companies hire safety officers to ensure that workers are wearing safety harness because workers do not feel any danger while working on height. They are more interesting to show their bravery! One last example is of death of any loved one. For few days we keep weeping, crying and remain sad as if by doing so dead person will come back. We know for sure, he will not come back but our emotions make us do what we do. All the above behaviour does not qualify as an intelligent reaction to our situation.

Still we believe firmly that we are an intelligent species! We feel we are intelligent but actually it is just a wishful thinking. Since we do not have any competitor we believe we are intelligent. As AI advances, machines start beating us in games. If we will not come out of our wonderland and keep improving machines to do our work, soon we will create our own masters.

It is important to realize that we are not at apex of intelligence. We are just a little more intelligent than other animals. There are vast areas of improvement in our intelligence especially emotional control. Collectively, if we ever succeed in making a machine just a notch higher in intelligence than humans, that day will be the beginning of our end. We can’t imagine and think what they can do and how such super artificial intelligence (SAI) will interact with society! Any machine smarter than us can easily find a way to beat us.

In 1997, Deep Blue — the computer created by IBM — defeated World Chess Champion, Garry Kasparov. Alpha Go defeated the human champion of Chinese game “GO”, which is several times difficult than Chess.

Google Deep mind- the maker of Alpha Go, are pioneer in machine learning using neural network. Their speciality is that while other programs focus on just one area and excels in it, Deep mind is trying to create AI program capable for general purpose. Their progress so far is impressive and if they continue to develop their programs, soon we will have human level AI. It will not take more than a decade to surpass human and make a SAI.

SAI will be more dangerous than a nuclear bomb. We can never able to predict how SAI will behave.  SpaceX/Tesla CEO Elon Musk calls super intelligence “our greatest existential threat” and donated $10 million from his personal fortune to study the danger. However, if we will be able to control it, it will be biggest invention of human civilization. SAI will solve many difficult problems we are facing in every walk of our life. This will start a new era in human civilization.

Creativity requires freedom:

We are living in a free world; most of the countries obtain their freedom more than fifty years back. Most of us living today are born in free countries. But are we really free? Relations, religions, caste, society, nationality and morality everything put restriction on us. Although we are living in free nations, yet we are enslaved by different restrictions.

As soon as you impose restriction on an artist, (s)he cease to give extraordinary performances. If a writer starts thinking that I must not write on this topic else someone might be offended then ultimately he will not be able to write anything. Creativity demands freedom. That is the reason, why we find all development in liberal and open societies.

My geographical location restricts me from openly writing about religion. Even mild criticism, for bringing positive outcome, can be dangerous. On top of that, I have self-imposed restriction of not writing anything derogatory or hateful about anyone. From last three days I am looking for something positive and motivating but unfortunately I am still struggling.

What is the purpose of freedom of speech if people are not able to digest mild criticism of their faith or opinion? If you will hide behind your private wall of faith and does not listen to others, you will never know whether you are wrong or other person are wrong. Just by chance, you born in your present religion. Without knowing it, how you can be certain that you were born in right religion. Read your religious books yourself. Learn about it before blindly believing on it.  Be a truth seeker, not a blind believer.
