Charity is not Enough!

It is quite easy to live life by ignoring problems around you which are not directly related to you. However, it is not the best way tolive. Indeed it is very insensitive way to live your life. By closing your eyes, reality will not change. Quantum physics does not work at this level.

I am talking about poor and underprivileged peoples. There is no end to their suffering. Every winter people die because of extreme cold as they do not have shelter and woollen cloth to keep them warm. In summer they die because of extreme hot temperature. In between they die because of hunger, malnutrition and due to non-availability of medicine and healthcare.

All this happens around us. We read in newspapers, watch inTV and sometimes saw from our own eyes. But instead of doing something, we gossip about it and move on! As if someone else has to do something for them. Manypeople hold government responsible as if someone else elected government forthem. In democracy, it is responsibility of every citizen to be politicallyactive and caste vote to right candidate. Blaming government is futile. As blame come back to us.

It is not that no one is doing anything for them, there are many NGO’s doing remarkable work to help needy people. The main problem is at individual level. We have time for everything except to help someone to live life better. You might consider yourself nice person because you regularly give charity. But did you ever enquire whether your charity is reaching to right hand or it is consumed before by others?  According to one Hindustan Times report:

“The Delhi high court has called for toughening of licensing norms for NGOs observing that 99% of them are “fraud” and “merely money making devices”.

In such scenario, giving charity is not enough. On contrary, it may happen that your charity is being used for wrong purposes. The best way out is to check personally where your money is going or find needy people around you and help them in whatever way you can. Your little time and effort can bring huge change in someone’s life.

Charity is not the only way to help. Sometimes your kind words, a smile and little time can make bigger impact then money. It is not always the poor who need help, sometimes well to do peoples stuck in such situation that they are on mercy of poor peoples. Surprisingly, they never let you down. Thus, do not think yourself superior and other inferior if you are helping them. We all are human and we all are equal. It is our responsibility to help those who left behind because of various reasons. Love all, help others and hate none.

Alcohol: Evil of Modern Society

Except few Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Potable alcohol generally known as Wine or Liquor is on sale every where with various names like Scotch, champagne, Brandy, Whisky, Jin, Rum, Tequila, vodka and beer. Whatever be the name, all Alcoholic beverages are addictive and harmful.

Yearly Expenditure on advertisement of Liquor: As reported on multinational monitor website “Alcohol companies spend close to $2 billion every year advertising in the United States alone. From 2001 to 2007, they aired more than 2 million television ads and published more than 20,000 magazine advertisements.”

Health Hazard of Consuming Alcohol: According to WHO report, “alcohol consumption has been identifi ed as carcinogenic for the following cancer categories (Baan et al., 2007): cancers of the colorectum, female breast, larynx, liver, oesophagus, oral cavity and pharynx. The higher the consumption of alcohol, the greater the risk for these cancers: even the consumption of two drinks per day causes an increased risk for some cancers, such as breast cancer (Hamajima et al., 2002).”

According to an estimate, around 2.5 million people die yearly because of over indulgence of Alcholic beverages. In US alone,  each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well as hundreds from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings.

Social Evil of Consuming Alcohol:

  • Drunken drive: Alcohol is not only harmful to the person consuming it but also to other persons who are not consuming it. It is very hard to drink in control way. Especially during parties, people over drink and drive back to home and make accidents. When they come out of their hangover, they found themselves in police lockup with charges of killing someone.
  • Teenage Alcoholism: In US alone, each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well as hundreds from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings. Huge spending on liquor ads is primary cause of teenage alcoholism. Secondary cause is culture and tradition of some countries where alcohol consumption is not considered bad because of religious reasons.
  • Domestic Violence: Domestic violence due to excessive alcohol drinking is common in developing countries like India where drinking is not strictly against religion. In Vadas and other Hindu scriptures, gods shown to consume Somrasa aka wine. Most of poor and middle class man came home in night after drinking and beat wife for trivial issues. In morning, they apologise and life goes on like that.

We should not make ourselves slaves to our own habits. You may try to drink wine in a controlled way, but wine is actually habit forming, and someday, if you want wine and cannot find any, you will feel annoyed. Wine may have benefits, if consumed in a controlled way, but it is most often not possible to drink in a controlled way. When you are drunk, you may lose control and even consciousness, but you are still responsible for your actions, including actions which you will do unknowingly. There are many cases of drunken drivers killing people by accident and then repenting for their whole lives for that one mistake. We should not indulge in anything habit forming, especially anything which makes us lose control or consciousness. Unfortunately, wine does both. So it is better to be avoided completely (or at least to drink in such a small quantity that you do not ever lose control or consciousness). Preferably, it should be consumed at home, at night, and, again, in small quantities. But, truly, it is much better if you avoid it altogether from the beginning, because once you start consuming alcohol, you will become enslaved and never know when you will break your own rule. There are people who say that we each must try everything. This is a ridiculous way to justify drinking alcohol. If we must try everything, will you now try drinking urine? Or sewage water? Or bitter-gourd juice ? It is great to try something new if it is good for us. But something which is habit forming is a terrible thing to try. My German boss, who loved beer more than anything, used to skip antibiotics when he fell sick because he didn’t want to give up drinking beer, and the two can’t be consumed together. Is that not pathetic? I repeat: Do not enslave yourself to any habit-forming and/or unhealthy thing. We can enjoy the world as long as we are healthy. So we must take good care of our bodies

I. Is it true that drinking lemon with water can help you reduce your tummy fat.

Hi friends,

Today I am starting a very interesting series of short post about fake news, superstitions, and wrong information floating on internet. In every post, I will cover one topic and try to reveal the truth.

Today’s post is about Whether lemonade or lemon with water helps in reducing weight.

You might have encounter at least one article describing how drinking lemon with water can help you reduce your tummy fat drastically within short span of time.

However, this may not be true. “Hot water with lemon in and of itself does not cause any actual weight loss,” says Alissa Rumsey, R.D., a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. However, if this drink is replacing a beverage that is higher in calories, like coffee with sugar or fruit juice – and that results in a calorie deficit – then it can help you lose weight.

Drinking water –whether hot or cold, infused with lemon, or plain –also helps keep your metabolism humming. “Staying hydrated is an important component of a healthy diet because it boosts your metabolism,” says Rumsey. “For those that don’t enjoy plain water, adding some lemon is a great way to boost the flavor without adding calories.”

Moreover, before starting drinking lemon water daily, please consider the side effect of Lemon contains citric acid, which may erode tooth enamel. In addition, lemon contains vitamin C that encourages iron absorption in the body. Too much of it can lead to an increase in the blood levels of iron. Which can damage organs. The acids in lemon juice can cause gastrointestinal side effects. Acidic foods may worsen symptoms of gastrointestinal reflux disease, or GERD, and some people get an upset stomach when they consume too much ascorbic acid.

However, lemon juice has many other health benefits, but over dose of lemon-juice can cause the many problem. Drink one or two lemon juice with water without sugar daily for  health benefits. But for weight reduction try other options than to drink lemonade.

Are we really helping society by distributing free food?

I always wonder why we have not yet eradicated starvation when so many organisations are distributing free food and other edibles? Truth is, by distributing free food we cannot achieve anything. By distributing free food, you are making people lazy and not interested in working anymore.

Around the world and especially in India, free food is distributed from decades. Still, population of people eating free food is increasing annually. If free food is solution of hunger, population which depends on free food must decrease over time but as mentioned above, population is increasing. Even after spending billions of Dollars daily, we are at the same situation. Every day we need even more food to serve.Below are some organisations working in this field:

  • Hare Krishna Food for Life is the world’s largest vegetarian non-profit food relief organization. It provide up to 2,000,000 free meals daily.
  • The Feeding America network distributed more than 3.6 billion meals to people in need in last one year.
  • At the Sikh Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, nearly 100,000 people eat on an average day.

My intention of writing this post is not to discredit the noble work done by above organisation but to highlight the root cause.

A person needs free food when he/she does not have a source of income. Instead of distributing free food, if we utilise this money in providing education, skill development and generating employment then there will not be any need for free food.

Never give up!

We all face difficulties in our life at some point of time; however, different people handle such situation differently. How you tackle your problems determine what kind of person you are! Different approach can work for different people, but one who never gives up always succeeds.

Life is the best thing we have; however, that does not mean life is simple or fair. Very few things are simple in life. Life is unpredictable and it is not necessary that good deeds results in good return. Most often, you are not rewarded for your good deeds, on the contrary sometimes you face worst results after helping someone. For example: you saw someone standing on lonely road in hot summer afternoon for lift, you stopped your car and let him in. As he sits inside your car he took out his gun and asked you to step out of car and handover all your  expensive things to him. Not only he robbed everything from you but also, left you alone on a highway in hot afternoon.

Let me give you a real life example of Dr. Kafeel Khan from UP, India. Dr. Kafeel, a paediatrician at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College saved life of several babies who would have died due to the scarcity of oxygen cylinders in hospital. He called everyone and arranged as many oxygen cylinders as he could for babies. Still 30 children died due to insufficient supply of oxygen. He was booked for the oxygen supply tragedy just because he was a Muslim and sent to Jail. He has been released on bail by the high court only recently, after the court found no evidence to prove medical negligence on part of Dr Kafeel Khan in dispelling his duties to save the children. Story does not end here. When he came out of Jail, his younger brother was shot and hospitalize. A saviour became victim of politics.

Do not do good in expectation of good return. If you are God fearing person, do good for your lord, if you are non religious, do good for your own happiness. However, do not expect from others, rewards of your goodness. You will always be disappointed. In short term, life is not fair. But in long term it might be preparing you for bigger challenges. So, Never give up. Think what life is asking from you? How you can change situation upside down. Where there is a will there is a way.

When Winston Churchill, who served as the prime minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1955, was asked to give speech in a university, he gave a speech containing most powerful message for everyone. He said Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”

Make the effort to meet health targets — Journalist portfolio

Despite the growth of the clean eating moment, the prevalence of obesity and non-communicable diseases is continuing to climb. The World Health Organization’s nutritional recommendations, if followed to the letter, would save millions of lives, and the food industry has a critical role to play in that process. We take a look at what the […]

How to set a Goal or Objective?

Sometimes you write your heart out, yet you didn’t find overwhelming response. On other time, you write a simple post about any topic and it becomes instant hit. It is really difficult to figure out what people’s will like and what not! My primary intention is to inspire peoples to do worthwhile things. Our life is full of choices. Right choice takes us forward and wrong choices, makes our life miserable. To move forward we need to make right choices, which we can only make when we have a goal in our life. Goals or objectives must be SMART. Here, SMART is acronym for

S= Specific

T=Time bound

Therefore, our goals should be aligning with above parameters. Suppose your goal statement is “I want to be rich”. With this goal you will not be able to achieve anything. This goal statement is neither time bound nor specific. Our goal statement must full fill all the above criteria to be SMART. SMART objective will be something like this: I want to be a millionaire within 2 years. If your goal is not time bound, you will never have urgency to attain. You will keep postponing it. If your goal is not measurable, then you will never know whether you attain your goal or not? If you make an unrealistic or unattainable goal, then you will just waste time and money. For example, if your goal is to create a Robot smarter than humans in 2 days. Since time period is too less compared to the amount the work, it is an unrealistic goal which you set without any proper investigation.

There are a lot of students too reading this blog; it will not be fair to end this post without considering one example of goal setting for them. However, before setting goals, you must evaluate your strength and weakness and your resources. For example, there is a student who gain 45% marks this year and he makes below goal statement for him:

“I want to be the topper in class.”

This is not a goal, this can be termed as wishful thinking. This goal is neither “Specific” not “Realistic”. Though, nothing is impossible but there are practical limits of improvement. There are only 24 hours in a day. You cannot change this fact. Therefore, more realistic and specific goal will be:

I want to achieve 75% marks in each subject in next exams.

Now, this is a SMART objective which you can achieve through hard work and dedication.

After setting a goal, next most important thing is how to achieve it? If you have a big goal, like one year or ten-year goal, first break it into small goals. To achieve 75% marks in final exam, you have to do well in each semester and class test. Therefore, set monthly targets for achieving your goals. Keep higher targets for the beginning as you cannot change your past later on and future is unpredictable. Initial advantage will help you achieve your goal even if in future you might face some problem.

Respect Women as an Individual

We all love our mother. There is hardly any exception in that sentence. A mother is a women who gives birth to us putting her life in danger. A mother has nine month extra relationship with baby than a father or any other member of family. She is the one who sacrifices her carrier, her ambitions and even her whole life for her children. In all religions and philosophies a women is respected as a mother.

There is something wrong in our societies. We can respect women as a mother, sister and daughter however, when the same women want respect and equality as an individual, we have problem. Many women too are not feminist for various social and religious reasons. Peoples have views and arguments proving women are physically weak or even further, women are mentally inferior to man. Even if for the sake of argument I accept this bullshit, it does not make women, less human. Women are not from Mars. Why it is so difficult for some man to understand that women are HUMAN being. Even though man and women have different physical appearance and brain structure but they are not inferior to man or superior to man. Women brain is more closely packed and thus has smaller size than man’s brain but that does not mean women are less intelligent. In some activities women’s are far better than man. we all human are equal and we must have equal rights and equal freedom to live, to pursue our goals and to grow.

I personally believe that, we must stop comparison. Comparison is causing much harm. Fruits are fruits. What is the point in comparing an apple to a banana? Both have their own quality, taste, nutrition value and appearance. Similarly, man and women both are human and both must be treated equally. They may excel in different areas or in many cases in same areas. They both have different qualities, appearance and serve different purposes in society. We should try to enhance their individual strengths.

In some cases, man can be weaker than women. Does that mean all those man are inferior to women and women are entitled to treat them badly?

One of the problem with the feminist movement is that, as always, it is the brain child of males. Why women can’t think for themselves? In Muslim countries man wants women to wear veils or hijab and cover whole body even eyes in some cases, so women are doing it, without even reading their scriptures! Why rules for men are not implemented the same way as for women? Why women do not raise their voice on this issue? In western countries man want women to wear short and revealing sexy outfits, so women are wearing it and believe that they are free and liberals. How two opposite ideologies can be correct at the same time? Either all women must be comfortable in covering themselves or in uncovering themselves. Why there is no consensus? Why women want to be puppet in the hand of man?

Think for yourself. Slavery is abolished but it seems not for women! Do not let peer pressure and males voices to dictate what is right and what is wrong for you. Think about yourself for yourself. Be the change you want to see in the world. Take your carrier more seriously.

Women must raise their voice, to tell the world what they want and what is good for them.

Every human being is different from other, some are strong, some are weak, some are more intelligent and some are less intelligent but that does not change anything. We breathe same air, live on same earth and drink the same water. When nature does not makes any difference, why do we? Nature hates disparity. Let us stop hating each other and make a beautiful and peaceful world where every human being is equal irrespective of caste, color, gender and religion. This can only be possible when we start respecting each other and change our old ways of thinking. When someone tells you women are sex object, think about your mother, daughter or sister. Are they sex objects? Every women is a daughter of someone, she deserve same respect that your gives to your mother or sister.

I dedicate this blog to all women in world!

This post is outcome of below post which is written about Book “Fraud of feminism” on anti-feminism  by E Belfort Bax written in 1913.

You can read full post here, where the blogger gave detail from the book.

Below are some parts of Book from same blog which pissed me off.

In it he argues that the claims of feminism are unfounded and are buttressed by fallacy upon fallacy. He argues women are  physically, intellectually and morally inferior to men. I am going ahead of myself.

Bax says feminism consists of the assertion of equality in intellectual capacity, in spite of appearances to the contrary, of women with men. In his view, because of the inequalities, women shouldn’t have been allowed to vote. He was assuredly against the suffragettes. To the question of why men of decidedly inferior mental capacities could vote when women couldn’t, he deferred to an argument for averages. He says in all these matters we have to deal with averages.

Bax tells us and he would gratify those who see women only as sexual objects

[…] the truth in question consists in the fact, while man has a sex, women is a sex.

Quoting Otto’s book Sex and Character, he writes

Woman is only sexual, man is also sexual. In woman, sexuality is diffused over the whole body, every contact on whatever part excites her sexually.

But he doesn’t stop here, he goes on to write

……woman has continued to find her chief function in the direct procreation of the race.

Real Happiness:

Most of us want a decent job to earn enough money to live a happy life. However, within a short span of time, they realize that they are not happy even though they are earning ample salary. Money is important but money is not the only thing required to be happy! If you make your hobby your means to earn livelihood, not only you will be more successful but also you will be happier. By choosing your priorities early, you can make your life better. After all, life is the product of our choices and situations.

Believe me; in present world, it is not so difficult to make your passion your profession. You just need planning and lot of patience. It might take some time before you start earning handsome amount of money. Nevertheless, once you start earning money, with time, it will continue to increase. Best part is that you are living your passion. You will be happy even though you are earning less initially. The only thing stopping you to live your passion is your thinking. Ask yourself this question. How can I make money with my hobbies? Focus on the skills you have and find the way to convert your hobby into your profession. Start making YouTube videos to help other and monetize your channel. If you are passionate about writing, start your own blog and use wordads or adsense to generate money.

Sometimes peoples confuse temporary laughter as happiness. Especially while giving example that money is not required for happiness, we point towards a poor person laughing on a joke or being happy playing with his children. Definitely, money is not prerequisite for happiness. However, money makes life easier. You gain better control on your life with money. Without money, you can be happy in bits and pieces. You do not need money to enjoy company of your loved once. However, without money they might not give you time or respect you deserve. Which will make you sad.

For permanent happiness, sufficient money to run your life smoothly is indeed required. However, besides money various other things are crucial too. Most important is your health. Not just of your body but also of your mind as well. Give time to your mind and body. As exercise and balance diet keep your body fit, meditation, mindfulness techniques and good sleep keeps your mind fit. Second important factor is relationships. Make sure you are marring to right person by talking to her. Focus on his/ her nature more than his/ her appearance. If you find a wife with good nature and pleasant personality, your life will be like heavens! Divorcing and getting married again will not fix things. Your first wife will take away some of you with her, and leave some of her imprint on you for long time if not forever! If you have kids, divorce will be a hell, not just for you but for your kids as well. You cannot learn everything by hit and trial. Hence, the right way is to check out everything before deciding for marriage.

Third thing is Job. Look for less tension, more pay jobs or business. Follow your passion. You can live happily even in less money by following your passion and converting it into your profession.

Fourth point is perspective. This is actually a difficult point. Please focus and try to understand it. Not all those peoples, who believe purpose of life is happiness, should follow their own perspective if it does not match with others in their society. Because you will not be happy if you have different perspective. Your life, your family, everything will disturb. However, if you believe that purpose of life is to live with reason and self-control in every situation you must strive for true perspective. On an average 85 % peoples in this world live their life with wrong perspective towards life. Still, they live a happy life because they never care about truth. Moreover, their happiness is fake like happiness of drug addict, when he takes drug, he feel like he is flying in air. He forgot every problem in his life. As effect of drug vanishes, he start feeling pain and weakness. Hence, Purpose of life should not be happiness; else, in pursuit of happiness you might become a “Hippie”.  True happiness is not in running behind happiness but in making life meaningful and purposeful. Happiness is not a goal but a condition, which we can achieve by setting right goal for our life. Those who confuse happiness as goal or purpose of life cannot live a meaningful, fulfilling and rewarding life. Take pain in making your life meaningful, set goal and exceed them. In due course, you will attain happiness.

Please comment if you agree with my post.
