Charity is not Enough!

It is quite easy to live life by ignoring problems around you which are not directly related to you. However, it is not the best way tolive. Indeed it is very insensitive way to live your life. By closing your eyes, reality will not change. Quantum physics does not work at this level.

I am talking about poor and underprivileged peoples. There is no end to their suffering. Every winter people die because of extreme cold as they do not have shelter and woollen cloth to keep them warm. In summer they die because of extreme hot temperature. In between they die because of hunger, malnutrition and due to non-availability of medicine and healthcare.

All this happens around us. We read in newspapers, watch inTV and sometimes saw from our own eyes. But instead of doing something, we gossip about it and move on! As if someone else has to do something for them. Manypeople hold government responsible as if someone else elected government forthem. In democracy, it is responsibility of every citizen to be politicallyactive and caste vote to right candidate. Blaming government is futile. As blame come back to us.

It is not that no one is doing anything for them, there are many NGO’s doing remarkable work to help needy people. The main problem is at individual level. We have time for everything except to help someone to live life better. You might consider yourself nice person because you regularly give charity. But did you ever enquire whether your charity is reaching to right hand or it is consumed before by others?  According to one Hindustan Times report:

“The Delhi high court has called for toughening of licensing norms for NGOs observing that 99% of them are “fraud” and “merely money making devices”.

In such scenario, giving charity is not enough. On contrary, it may happen that your charity is being used for wrong purposes. The best way out is to check personally where your money is going or find needy people around you and help them in whatever way you can. Your little time and effort can bring huge change in someone’s life.

Charity is not the only way to help. Sometimes your kind words, a smile and little time can make bigger impact then money. It is not always the poor who need help, sometimes well to do peoples stuck in such situation that they are on mercy of poor peoples. Surprisingly, they never let you down. Thus, do not think yourself superior and other inferior if you are helping them. We all are human and we all are equal. It is our responsibility to help those who left behind because of various reasons. Love all, help others and hate none.

Live for Today

“Life is like an Ice cream, enjoy it before it melts!”

When there is night in the west, there is a day in the East. Therefore, earth remain bright all the time. Similarly, in our life every situation has bright side and a dull side. We just need to try to see the bright side.

To live a happy life stop making detailed long-term planning. Live in today, care for today and do today’s work today. Future is very unpredictable, so do not plan much about future. You do not know what tomorrow will bring for you. Do not spent today, dreaming about tomorrow.

As we grow older, even in our 40’s, our perception about world and life change. What we thought as important, no longer remain important for us after just twenty years. You will be different you after every years. If you have to enjoy, enjoy today. If you have to work, work today. If you have to live, live today.

“Life is short, make it sweet. Do not put all the flowers for your grave.”

Never give up!

We all face difficulties in our life at some point of time; however, different people handle such situation differently. How you tackle your problems determine what kind of person you are! Different approach can work for different people, but one who never gives up always succeeds.

Life is the best thing we have; however, that does not mean life is simple or fair. Very few things are simple in life. Life is unpredictable and it is not necessary that good deeds results in good return. Most often, you are not rewarded for your good deeds, on the contrary sometimes you face worst results after helping someone. For example: you saw someone standing on lonely road in hot summer afternoon for lift, you stopped your car and let him in. As he sits inside your car he took out his gun and asked you to step out of car and handover all your  expensive things to him. Not only he robbed everything from you but also, left you alone on a highway in hot afternoon.

Let me give you a real life example of Dr. Kafeel Khan from UP, India. Dr. Kafeel, a paediatrician at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College saved life of several babies who would have died due to the scarcity of oxygen cylinders in hospital. He called everyone and arranged as many oxygen cylinders as he could for babies. Still 30 children died due to insufficient supply of oxygen. He was booked for the oxygen supply tragedy just because he was a Muslim and sent to Jail. He has been released on bail by the high court only recently, after the court found no evidence to prove medical negligence on part of Dr Kafeel Khan in dispelling his duties to save the children. Story does not end here. When he came out of Jail, his younger brother was shot and hospitalize. A saviour became victim of politics.

Do not do good in expectation of good return. If you are God fearing person, do good for your lord, if you are non religious, do good for your own happiness. However, do not expect from others, rewards of your goodness. You will always be disappointed. In short term, life is not fair. But in long term it might be preparing you for bigger challenges. So, Never give up. Think what life is asking from you? How you can change situation upside down. Where there is a will there is a way.

When Winston Churchill, who served as the prime minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1955, was asked to give speech in a university, he gave a speech containing most powerful message for everyone. He said Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”

Work hard, party harder

Life is beautiful. To make it more beautiful you need to organise your professional life properly. Always keep your personal and professional life separate. Unfortunately, in Indian subcontinent, this is not the case. Employees will bring tension and work to home. Instead of focussing on work during office hours and pleasure during holidays, most of the employees mix work and pleasure and achieve no good result.

Most of us spent around half hour in travelling from home to office and same time in returning from office to home. This time can be utilising for transition from home mode to office mode provided you are not driving. If you are driving, then probably best thing is to focus on the road. However, if you are not driving, start thinking and planning for your work. While returning, do the same thing about the home. In office, avoid taking personal call or keep them short. Your full focus should be on work. No unnecessary chatting, no videos, no social media, just work. Similarly, when you are at home do not take calls from office, until it is damn important. When you go on holidays, switch off your company mobile. Focus of enjoying. Have party. Do not even think about any work. Refresh yourself. Spend quality time with your family and friends. Do what you like the most.

In this way, not only you will be able to perform well in your work but also will be able to live a more fulfilling life. Always remember your priorities. Initially, we start earning for our family, for living a better life but somewhere in the middle we forget our priorities and reason why we wanted to have money. Working hard is good; however, mixing work with personal life is not a good idea. Do not sacrifice happiness of your family and your health for your promotion.

There is no point in achieving success, if there is no one to celebrate it.

Ten bitter truths

  • If you are not powerful, nobody cares whether you are right or wrong?
  • If you will not step forward, someone else will take your place.
  • Life is not fair, don’t expect what you deserve.
  • Do not confuse success with greatness. Even the worst people can be successful.
  • Victory can hide your sin, but certainly cannot eliminate them.
  • If you really want to repent, first accept punishment gracefully.
  • Money is good servant but a bad master
  • Survival for the fittest.
  • We do not see world as it exist, we see it as we want to perceive.
  • If you do not ask, answer will always be No.

A Journey to the Land of Bliss…

Please read till the end to find meaning of the post.

Once upon a time, there was a nomad tribe. Their leader had a book of guidance and a map to reach the ultimate place of bounty, pleasure and tranquility. On his deathbed, tribal leader gave book of guidance to his son and commanded him to live by the code of book and follow the right part as shown in the book and continue journey towered place of ultimate bliss! After the Leader of tribe died, his son become new leader. He buried his father and after few days of mourning, he continues the journey towards unknown and unseen world.

New leader also had an 18 years old son; he himself was 50 years old. There were around 200 more people flowing them. While travelling, they stop at some location for few weeks and perform different types of juggling and magic acts to earn living and then again move on in search of Place of Bliss!

Twenty years passed, they cover 90% of the journey, the new leader on his deathbed instructed his son same thing which his father instructed him. On that Rex-the son of new leader asked politely “ Father I will surely follow your instruction, but my loving father just tell me if we have any proof or evidence that the book we are following and the path which we are traversing is correct?” On his question father get angry and shouted on the son “Since the time of our forefather we are following this book, do you think they were wrong? Only you are intelligent.  He continued, “This is a true book wherein there is nothing wrong written. We must take all peoples to that place of eternal bliss.” Son replied, “Father I believe you, please do not be angry. I promise you that I will go to that place.

After death of his father, Rex continued journey towards blessed place. He was ambitious and in hurry to reach there. Without taking any stopover, moved day and night. Few people leave him, but he was confident about his destination. On the way, some people stopped him and asked where he is going. He told them and asked them to come with him. However, those people laughed and told him there is no such place in the vicinity. Determined, Rex continued his journey.

Finally, he reached near to the destination. The same location as shown in map as blessed place. In his joy and delight, he started running towards it. There was a cliff and it was not possible to see beyond it. While running, he started dreaming about blessed place. Book mentioned it as most beautiful and wonderful place where no one will die or become old. Everything will be in abundance. There will not be any suffering and….

All of a sudden, he realized that there is no ground below his feel! He tried to make balance but it was too late. He was falling in the deep valley. He shouted-Save me! However, there was no one to save him. Many of those who follow him blindly also fell down with him. It was a very deep valley. While falling down he was cursing his father and that out dated book, which his ancestors were following. He was too late to realize all this. He though if he would have given heed to those passerby who told him not to follow this path he might not be in this condition. All his hard work go in vain. He saw pointed rocky ground beneath. He struck the ground, his body divided in to pieces, and he died.

This is a fake story. However, it contain a very important and powerful message. That message is:

Do not follow even your Parents Blindly. They can be wrong! At the end, you receive what you believe. You have time until your death to find and follow true path. Choose wisely not blindly!

Extreme sports were my hobby. Biking, Tracking, Skydiving and kick boxing were few things I enjoyed in free time. I was an Alpha male, that’s why they might choose me. I was 25 and yet bachelor with Electronics and communication Engineering degree. I was a kind of person who does not believe in marriages partially because of my parents whom I always saw fighting on small issues. My Father was an Indian American and my mother was an American. My Grandfather came to USA when my father was 15 years old. Soon he brings whole family to USA. He was a chef in a famous hotel. My Father was the eldest son and after finishing his education he start working as Micro-Biologist in a private company. He was an Indian Muslim married to a Catholic Christian. Due to this reason, my Grandfather disowned him and returned to India. My Grandfather was afraid that his other 4 children might follow the foot step of my Father.

I am the only son of my parents, but my parents were busy in their work. My mother was a social activist and war reporter working with Reuters. She loved me a lot but never has time for me. Our maid jenny takes care for me in absence of my Parents. My Father wanted my mother to be a house wife but she was not born to be captured. She never gave importance to his advice.

I was busy in myself when Kate asked me something which I was not able to understand. Pardon, I said. She replied “What is your name?” I said Khan, My name is Khan. There was no necessity or reason to tell her my full name as i was the only Khan on this planet. I realise that I am far away from my world in a hostile planet and should be careful. My mind start awakening. I was constantly thinking how to escape but there was no where to run. After 10 min. drive we reached near a building hardly two story high. I asked her, no skyscraper? Instead of replying she pressed some button of elevator and she pointed towards the button and asked me “ do you know what is written on this button”. I said, No. On that she informed me, it is 150 in your language. I live on 150th basement and there are total 230 basements below ground floor. I was looking at her with surprise, and then I inquired, why you live underground? Is it not difficult to manage ventilation? Kate informs me that their Sun radiates more harmful radiation.100 years ago, they shifted to this planet as their original planet lost atmosphere. However, since this planet is near to sun, it receives more radiation and more energy. Kate further told me that their sun is in last stage unlike our sun which is in middle age. In a million year it will start expending and engulf the planet. Kate continues, that is why we are searching for new planets for life. Your earth has more nitrogen in atmosphere, which is harmful to our body and it is and too far away, which is not good for us. Hence, we need to find another planet near to us. As lift stopped, we come out in a big hall, brighter than day light. It was like an entire city. There were escalators to move around from lift to each door and beyond.

Kate already informed Eve about me, she was reluctant to keep me in her home, but when Kate convinces her that I not dangerous, she agrees to keep me in her home.

They were evolved from reptiles, as we were believed to be evolved from chimps. Similar to chameleon, they have ability for changing skin colour. They also had a tale, which they use as a third hand. Their hands and legs were shorter than humans; still they can stand upright on two feet and can also crawl on the walls if required.

As they were evolved from reptiles, they do not have enlarged breast like human female for feeding milk to their babies. They were researching on me and I was researching on them.

While in the home, I saw their baby, it was cute and adorable. One more member was there in the house, which later I come to know was a Robot. His name was Oreopendalomena-S16, but I call him Oreo. These peoples already created SAI- the super artificial Intelligence. For security reasons, SAI was not connected to their internet. Oreo has job specific AI installed and it was programmed for household works and for taking care of babies. Kate installed new program in Oreo to understand my language and to keep eye on me. After that she removed my hand cuffs. I was feeling thirsty, so I requested for water. Oreo bring for me water. Kate told me that water is not available in abundance and I have to  recycle water. She further told me that she do not need much water. They can survive for several days without food or water. Eve was not happy to see me, and she starts whispering in Kate ear, Kate denied whatever Eve said to her saying “he is not dangerous and Oreo will keep an eye on him”. She continued “After few days we will shift him to another facility. Till then I need to study his behaviour and submit my report.”

I was missing my family and earth. I never felt that way when I was on Earth. We never think beyond our cities and countries. Now sitting on another planet makes me think about my own planet, humanity and our fate as an intelligent species. Though, their population is less but they are far advance from us.

What is Life?

What is life? Sometimes this question raise in our mind. Is a rock alive? How about flowing water or gushing wind? Why we can’t say machines are alive when they can work and move around? How about trees? So what are the traits we saw in something to call it alive? There are peoples who believe that everything is alive. Can we believe that? Let us find out traits of life using mind storming and available information.

It may not be necessary for a being to be intelligent or able to move for being alive. Computers and even smart phones are becoming artificially intelligent; however, we don’t call them alive. Nor do we call any car or robot alive even though they can move all around. They are not alive. What is it that a living being can do but a rock or a car or a robot can’t do? There must be some unique traits of living being which machines and matter or any other non-living thing unable to exhibit. Eating, drinking, sleeping, moving, speaking and listening all are considered as traits of life by Biologist. However, many of such traits can be found in non-living matter or in some machine. In broader perspective, the two most important traits of living being are as follows:

  • Ability of reproduction
  • Ability to grow and accumulate things needed for survival in at least one medium like air, water, ice or soil etc.

Without any doubt, animals including human are alive and fulfill both conditions. Plants too are alive as they too grow and reproduce. Machines, flowing water, computers, cars and wind do not reproduce so they are not alive. You do not have to think much to realize that rocks are dead.

Let us go to smaller level. Unicellular organisms are also alive. Virus is a tough choice. Virus are special in that they behave as living when they are inside the body of another organism. Moreover, when they are out-of-body they became dead. Both traits of life are not found in them when they are outside of body of another organism. Therefore, they are at the boundary of living and non-living things.

Let us go to next smaller level to DNA. All living being has DNA. DNA carries instruction of growth and reproduction. Therefore, we can modify our definition of living being as follows will reduce traits of life from two to one.

Anything that has a DNA is alive.

Does DNA itself is alive is a big question. Since we cannot define word by word itself, we have to go back to our primary traits of life. If DNA can reproduce and if it can grow by itself than DNA is alive else, it is a nonliving code of chemical compound, which makes every other thing alive when suitably fitted with DNA. DNA does not full fill second condition of life i.e. growth.

We can define DNA as “chemically active replicating biological compound” rather than a living being. As a computer chip can store information and give instruction for motion to machine but we do not call it alive. In same way, DNA is not a living being. Even though I personally like them to qualify definition of life but sadly at this point they are out of living world.

Three Habits which we must remove from our life:

1)Not accepting our mistakes :

To err is human.

We all make mistakes. However, some acknowledge their mistakes publically, some privately, some in their mind and some are adamant at not accepting it. Those who do not accept their mistakes think that they are right and has done great work because they are not guilty of their mistakes anymore. They are clean. Nevertheless, they fail to realize that without accepting their mistakes internally or externally they miss the golden chance to improve themselves. To accept your mistake is first step to rectify it. Moreover, they lose trust of many friends who knew back in their mind that you were guilty but because there were no evidence to prove it, you escaped.

We mostly learn from our mistakes or from other’s mistakes. Many inventions are result of accidents by mistakes like vulcanized rubber, which was formed when Sulphur was accidentally fall in rubber manufacturing apparatus. There are several such example of inventions and discoveries by mistakes. Going back to original post, it is better for your growth and development to accept your mistakes and learn from them. Do not feel too much guilty about them, as it is human nature. Forgive yourself and move forward with lesson learnt. Long back I read a quotation “Anyone can make a mistake but fool insist on repeating it”. Don’t be a fool. Do not keep repeating your mistakes. Learn and improve yourself.

2) Expectation: We expect all sort of things from people around us. When those expectations are not fulfilled, we become sad. Do not give remote control of your happiness to others. Focus on yourself, focus on things in your control. When you help someone, help him or her for your own peace of mind not for some return. When you do not expect and you find help from someone it feels like a reward. On the contrary, when you expect and not get the desired outcome you become sad. Therefore, expecting anything from any one is not a good idea and must be avoided.

3) Procrastination: Delaying any activity drains your energy. Things will cling in your mind until you do not finish your work. Stop procrastination. Time is most precious thing in the world because we cannot buy it back. Do not waste time waiting for perfection. Ideas executed imperfectly are far better than ideas never implemented because they were not perfect. There is no right time for good work. Start now. Every time is right time. Make a list of all important and urgent work. Focus on important work, soon you will find there are no urgent work left.
